HIGHWAY TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS
Traffic violations are offences that are alleged offences committed against an act such as the Highway Traffic Act or Municipal Codes. These offence notices are to be taken in high regard as they can cause constrains such as a fluctuation of automobile insurance rates; affect eligibility to qualify for certain occupational positions; and create life altering situations.

These offences are usually issued to a driver, operator or a company operating a motor vehicle as defined by the Highway Traffic Act.

It is important to dispute traffic violations received in order to avoid an accumulation of charges and demerit points on your driving record.

When disputing these offences it is crucial to understand there are two aspects involved.
1. The charge itself (Wording of the charge , Ramifications of the charge)
2. Demerit Points

Each aspect affects you differently. For example, Demerit points are apparent on your driving record however, they are not usually used to determine your insurance premiums.

An accumulation of points will affect you in a manner of once reaching a certain amount of demerit points varying on the license you hold as a driver you may be suspended or a mandatory meeting may be set with the Ministry of Transportation in where the they can determine your eligibility to drive.

Furthermore, Insurance companies base their rates on how many violations are apparent and the severity of the charges whether they are considered major or minor. Once a charge has been registered on your driving record it remains apparent for the next three years on your Ontario Driver's Abstract. Each insurance company assess your driver's abstract differently so please ensure to contact your insurance company for more specific information.
